Imagine the most beautiful day..... around 70 degrees, sunny with a few perfectly placed clouds, vibrant green lawn and waves crashing at the shore. THIS is how Chris and Kristen tied the knot in the middle of January! It was perfect.

Pebble Beach is known to be beautiful, and with Chris being an avid golfer, their location was so personal and exquisite. Their destination wedding was intimate with just family and a few close friends.

It was great to have my husband second shoot for me and we stayed two nights in Monterey, CA. The day before the wedding we photographed Chris and his guys teeing off in the morning, the ladies' Tea Party and their rehearsal.

So happy for you both, Chris & Kristen!

There is a beautiful gem hidden in Laguna Beach called the Aliso Creek Inn. It is tucked up on a hill in Laguna Canyon and is a BEAUTIFUL place for a wedding. Clint and Christina had gorgeous ceremony and reception overlooking the golf course. Just after the ceremony the happy couple, my fantastic assistant Stephanie, the wedding coordinator and myself drove down the green scattered with deer and were able to get some great shots.

Clint and Christina are so sweet together. It was so fun getting to see their love and commitment for each other proclaimed in such a beautiful setting.

I was so excited when Jimmy & Krystal wanted to do their Engagement Session in North Hollywood right around the corner from where they live. I like to encourage couples to choose a spot that is meaningful to them for them and this turned out great. We walked just around the block and found lots of great fall trees, a colorful sculpture and a great old fashion movie theater. Jimmy and Krystal are an adorable couple and so photogenic it was a blast. I was so giddy when Krystal brought her dog Mouse down for a few shots. I cant wait for their wedding this summer.

When Tracy called me and said she wanted to do their Engagement Photos down at the Balbo Fun Zone and Pier I got so excited. The Laguna Cliffs Marriott was the perfect setting for Robert & Juliann's summer wedding. Their bright colors and high energy made for a very fun and exciting day.

The ceremony took place on the patio overlooking the Dana Point harbor and between the ceremony and reception we got to sneak down to the beach near the Ocean Institute for some more intimate pictures.

I love being in the wedding industry because you can get great inspiration from some fabulous DIY brides. I had seen a bride make custom chocolate wrappers as their wedding favors that had different photos of the couple on each chocolate. Chocolate and Photography are two of my favorite things so I was sold! I made these mini chocolate "business cards" for an upcoming Bridal Expo.

An ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS Wedding and couple! I started out the day with Andrea getting ready with her girls at the St. Regis in Dana Point. It was a very overcast morning and we were all wondering if it was going to clear up. The girls and I headed over to the San Juan Mission to take some shots of all of them together just as the sun and blue skys came out. Oh how I love the Mission! It was such a picture perfect setting - literally!

While I was with Andrea and the girls, I had Mandy - my awesome second shooter - get some shots of the guys down in Lantern Bay Park in Dana Point. They did a great job and we all headed over to the San Juan Hills Country Club.

This was my first time shooting at the San Juan Hills Country Club and I must say, instant venue favorite! Highly recommend it. Great staff, everything in one classy, picturesque location, and a great view. A big shout out to Melissa the Event Director for all her hard work and for staying so on top of everything.

Surrounded by their supportive family, close friends, and their two children, Trey & Danielle had an intimate garden Wedding, in Costa Mesa, CA. It was a beautiful hot Summer's day and their guests were happy to have the fans Trey and Danielle gave out.

Danielle rocked bright red lipstick and had her hair done by the fabulous Chelsea Neilsen with Kaos Salon. (Highly recommend her, she is great!) Everything was very personal and special, from their son as the ring bearer to the releasing of white doves. Beautiful.

James and Laura are filled with laughs and free spirits. Their kisses were often coupled with giggles, and their friends and family were their with lots of love and cheer.

It was a beautiful July Wedding. James & Laura had their ceremony was on the patio of the Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club, overlooking the golf course and the reception area was to the right with a large roof for shade but still open to see the view and the waterfalls. The Wedding Coordinator (Sarah) was very on top of things and so sweet.

Mitchell and Julianne are an awesome couple that are surrounded by a fantastic family that love them and love the Lord. I was so blessed to be apart of their Wedding Day. I love, love, LOVED all the vintage details and personal touches to the wedding. Part of Juliann's gown was even made from her mother's wedding dress.

They had their ceremony and reception at the Norman P. Murray Community Center in Mission Viejo. I just love that venue and there is a beautiful trail just down the hill called Oso Creek Trail. It has a very quaint, and personal vibe and it fit perfectly with Mitchel & Juliann's style.

Last September (the weeked before my wedding) I shot Scott and Jess' wedding in Catalina, and now, seven months later, I got to do a "Mr + Mrs Photoshoot" of them. They have been pronounced as husband and wife and now they get to celebrate! We went to a little nature trail hidden in Costa Mesa and Scott & Jess came geared up in cowboy hats and boots. I would like you all to meet my dear friend Michele - my best friend since infancy! She has been there for me from Barbie dolls and dance class, to our collage degrees and having her stand next to me as my Maid of Honor on my Wedding day. I am very lucky to have her as a friend and was very lucky to have her as my Maid of Honor and my Wedding Planner!

I really lucked out having my best friend be a Wedding Planner. She spent countless hours planning and coordinating my wedding, with vendor lists and timelines. Michele was and is AMAZING! She has her our business The Perfect Fairytale, and comes HIGHLY recommended.

I met Lisa & Greg through the WeddingWire, and I am so glad they found me. They are so cute together and have the sweetest love story: These two were friends in college, with secret crushes on eachother. After graduation they went their own ways and reunited 20 years later and are getting married this March! You can see their love for eachother in their sweet smiles.

September 18th, we took the 7:00am boat out of Dana Point to Catalina Island. It was a foggy morning and a bumpy ride, but after 45 mins me, my assistant - the talented Sara Wilkens, and my good friend/amazing florist Nina Wiskus (Fresh la Fleur) all stepped off onto the beautiful Island and ready for Scott & Jess' BIG DAY! The fog cleared and the harbor was amazing.

Scott and Jessica had their quaint, nautical themed wedding in the courtyard of The Landing right on the harbor, surrounded by their friends and family. It was a beautiful day, and I couldn't be happier for the two of them.

Kathryn and Tim's beautiful backyard wedding was so perfect. The flowers were amazing, the food was delicious, that dancing was jiving, and their vows were precious. In planning my own wedding I often keep and eye out at the weddings I shoot for things I'd like to have at my wedding. I would love to carry over the fun and laughter from this wedding. A little hard to actually do... but I think I will strive for it. Everyone knew eachother and were having a great time. So glad I was able to be a part of it.

I am so far behind on my post! I've been so busy with Senior Photoshoots, Weddings, and planning for my own wedding I haven't been keeping up on my blog.

High School Seniors are so fun to shoot. They are always so fun and willing to do anything! "Stand up. Sit down. Walk over there - stop - stop - that's perfect.... work it... work it." haha Lisa was such a good sport. We did her senior shoot down in Laguna Beach and even with lots of people spectating she still acted naturally and smiled proud.

Oh Wow it's been a while since my last post. Sorry about that. I've been caught up in the excitement of my engagement!! Travis proposed April 9th!!

One recent shoot that has been lost in the shuffle was Kristin Anderson's Senior Portraits. I know this makes me sound old, but she has grown up into such a beautiful woman. I have known her since she was like 5 years old... and now she's graduating!! Good job Kristin!

This was such a fun shoot and Kristin was such a good sport about things and INCREDIBLY photogenic which always makes my job fun.

I know I'm a little late on posting this, but here's the Cover Photoshoot I did for The OC Gazette, for their March issue. Abraham and his wife Alexandra own and manage Nakoma Mortgage Company. I was so excited when they decided to include their two adorable kids in this shoot. They are such a sweet family and those kid's giggles will make anyone's heart melt.

A good friend of mine, Leon Ingram, joined me on this shoot and stood behind me and made funny faces at the kids. As you can tell, the kids thought he was hilarious!

Amethyst and Robert's wedding was so beautiful, romantic and intimate. Everything followed the Valentine's day theme with reds, pinks and hearts in all the details. They were married at the enchanting Orange Hill Restaurant, surrounded with some of their closest friends and family. Robert's two daughters played a special role in the ceremony, the youngest bearing the rings, and his eldest Amethyst's Bridesmaid. It was so sweet to see their two families coming together as one.

Last week I headed over to "The Science of Gingerbread" exhibit at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, with my dear friend Sara Wilkens of the OC Gazette. Here magazine covered the exhibit on their blog and asked me to shoot the images for it.

Beebes, Brays, and Millers

I have known the Beebes almost my whole life, and what an awesome family they are. A family with three beautiful daughters: Kimberly, Annette, and Suzy. {sorry you weren't here Kimberly- who is in Hong Kong- have fun!} And now, there is more family to love... Suzy married Sean Bray and Annette married to Austin Miller!!

Meet Kamisha, Joe & Paul

What a BEAUTIFUL family! I know Kamisha and her family through my church, and was so excited when she asked me to do their Family/Pregnancy Shoot. We headed down to Seal Beach for some shots by the pier, and we didn't stop there... we were in the playground, on the beach, the grass, and even by the giant tractors that were there for construction. They were so relaxed and natural, they made my job a breeze!

As a special way to remember her pregnancy, Kamisha got this intricate Henna design on her hand and belly. I absolutely LOVED the design and think its such an awesome way to celebrate the beauty of a pregnant woman.

Help-Portrait

Hi everyone! I just found out about a great event/movement for photographers to give back and want to spread the word about: Help-Portrait

"Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this holiday season." The Orange County group is just starting to collaborate, please let Jan know if you want to join. We'll be going out and shooting December 12th- Save the Date!

We are also looking for makeup artist that will donate their time and talent to making this day extra special.

A couple months ago, I helped organize a similar event for some families in Women & Children Shelters and Homeless Shelters in Long Beach, called Portraits in the Park. I want to give a big thanks to the five other photographers that helped out:

Jennifer Owens, Nick Yutaka, James Bennett, Travis Wheeland, and Justin Koerner.

As Seen In: The OC Gazette

I was thrilled when the Gazette team approached me to shoot the October cover story of their magazine. The Gazette is monthly direct-mail magazine that reaches 100,000 homes in south and central Orange County. This month's cover story featured Janet Lojeski, who sells Cancer Insurance Policies. The Gazette puts it perfectly, "With over 10 years in the business you can trust Janet to take care of you and your family as if you were her own." It was so nice to meet Janet and her family. Everyone was so sweet and I felt like I had even grown into the family.

Fun Fact: Janet Lojeski and I share the same favorite color: Yellow! It must be a "Janet" thing.

Photography Tip: Composition & Finding Fresh Angles

Whether you are a professional photographer, or just taking pictures for fun, give yourself permission to take great images! Get up, get down, move, lean, crouch. During a photoshoot you will often find me climbing up on benches, laying on the ground or standing right over you. I may look a little silly at the time, but the photos make it all worth it! Shooting from different angles can add so much more interest and excitement to your composition.

Don't be afraid to get down and dirty! Crouch, lay flat, or place your subjects high. Getting low can add new excitement and interest to your photos. BE CAREFUL. Shooting from a low angle is not always very flattering, so use your judgment, and if a low angle doesn't work, try another. Remember, we are 3-Dimensional beings-not flat, and there are so many different angles you can shoot from.

Shooting from above can be a very flattering angle. When you shoot a person from above, it brings focus to their eyes and face which can really give life to your images.

Try it out, and let me know how it goes!

Boards & Wheels

Yesterday I went to a Rip Curl sponsored event called Surfboards in the Sand, down at the Huntington Beach Pier. My good friend Sara came with me and we had a blast photographing all the surfers and their boards. Also, the Wheeland Brothers (and band) were playing along with three other bands. Fun, fun day, down at the beach.

Wheeland Brothers:

They sectioned off a spot on the sand for all the surfers to come bring their boards and stick them in the sand for some epic photos. They even shot one of the pics from this helicopter:

Tons of boards! I was tempted to bring mine and show it off, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to take pics. Can you blame me?

Meet the Wheeland Brothers

A few weeks back I shot the amazing Wheeland Brother's promo pics for their new album "Four Flat Wheels of Fortune." Be sure to check these guys out at their upcoming show at Rip Curl's Surfboards in the Sand event Saturday, Sep 19 at the Huntington Beach Pier. A fellow photographer, Sara Wilkens (for the OC Gazette Magazine), and I will be shooting their show. So stop by and say "hi"!

As you can see, we had a blast at this photoshoot! Tavis, Nathan, Nicole and I headed down to our secret surf spot for some sun, surf, music and photos. These guys really know how to work it in front of the camera too. Haha. Check them out!

Meet Karisa

I was very impressed with Karisa at this photoshoot. Her background in acting allowed her to get into so many different characters- which really makes my job fun! From seven different wardrobe changes, to getting stranded on a rock from a big wave, and still being able to maintain her composure- Bravo Karisa!

This photoshoot will be used to help her get into acting and can also double as her senior pictures.

Hi Everyone, I am sorry I have not been keeping up with my Photography Blog very well. Between working on redesigning my new website, keeping up on editing images and traveling on vacation, I have put off and putt of posting new images. I apologize. I will try to catch up on some posts, so keep your eyes out for a whole lot of new images. Salvation Mountain

A group of us went out to see Salvation Mountain, out in Imperial County- just east of the Salton Sea. Salvation Mountain is this amazing place/artwork created by Leonard Night. (Check out the website if you've never heard of it) It is Leonard's tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: "God Is Love." It is constructed using hay bales, adobe, tree branches, trash etc. Leonard continues to add more supports and more hay bales all covered with adobe all the while painting and repainting with bright colors that his visitors bring.

It was a very hot weekend, but totally worth it. We got to talk to Leonard (the artist), and had lunch with him that Cris BBQed. Here are some pictures from our journey out there.

John's Senior Pictures

It was so fun shooting John's Senior Pictures last Saturday. John was such a good sport and let me take a million and one pictures. Haha. We met at Laguna Niguel Regional Park for the photoshoot- one of my favorites locations.

Fun Fact: John runs Cross Country for Capo H.S. and the O.C. Regional Championships are at that same park! I was tempted to make him go run the course but I use to run C.C. for El Toro and know that that course is a little repetitious, so I had mercy. haha

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of participating in a big SoCal Photo Shoot-Out. We all met up at a community park in Fullerton, with about 30 photographers and 6 models. It was really a great and challenging event to take part in. I think the most challenging thing was having so many photographers there, all trying to get their shot. AND the most rewarding part was having so many photographers there- It was great to network, share settings, work together on posing and different shot ideas. It was a great time and good experience. So fun! I can't wait for the next one!

A few weeks ago, my good friend Karyn and I got together for coffee. Karyn is one of those people that you cant help but admire. She is friendly, generous, beautiful, sweet, giving, loyal, and truly lives for God's glory. I just love every chance I get to spend with her. I took some pictures of her that day, and it was just so much fun. Just look! She is beautiful! Garret, you are a lucky man to be married to such an amazing person. :)

My friend John Awesome let me take pictures of him doing his Mix Martial Arts. It was fun making him mad at me too- trying to get emotion in the shots. I felt bad because before I knew it, I had been shooting for 2 hours!! John, you're a good sport to work out for that long at such an intensity.

Frenn Family

I don't think anyone could have asked for a more beautiful day than when I photographed the Frenn family down at the beach- especially in January! I was so nice and the whole group was a lot of fun to work with. It was a pretty big group- 22 in all, and they were all so great. It was so neat to see the family ties and resemblances, and how they cared for one another.

This weekend I had the privilege of photographing my friend Allison and her darling daughter Grace. It was so fun watching Allison play with Grace, and so special to see their beautiful relationship they have together. And Grace looked SO cute in her little Santa dress (good job Allison!)You guys are so much fun!

This was SO CUTE!! I was taking pictures of Allison and Grace wanted to be like her mommy so she sat down next to her and tried to cross her legs like her mom! It just made me melt!

Holiday Photoshoot!!

For Thanksgiving I was so blessed to visit my brother's and their families! I especially LOVE visiting my nephews and niece! [Aunti Jan loves you!] I was snapping pictures left and right while I was there and we even made time to take some Christmas Pictures. Oh wow, it was so fun!

I just got back today from a 4 day trip to Nor Cal to visit my two brothers, their wives, and my niece and nephews. It was so much fun being there with all of them- it seemed too short. I will add more pictures later, but for now... I just HAD to post this picture- I love it!!

Emily & Jeff's Engagement Shoot

This past weekend I got to shoot an Engagement session for Emily & Jeff. They were a lot of fun. Emily and Jeff have been dating for nearly 5 years now, and said they were nervous to do the photo shoot because they have become such best friends that they didn't know if they knew how to be all "cutesy" and "lovey-dovey". Ahh... that's so cute! But believe me, I found them being "lovey-dovey" quite a few times- they've still got it!

Portugal!!

Here are a few photos from near the end of my Europe trip. These are near and around Libon. Portugal is so beautiful and has so many neat things to see. In Lisbon we stayed with Cassy's cousin Luis (thanks Luis) and his roommates- who were great fun! This first picture is the view from a castle (hence the canon). There are a lot of castles in Portugal, most of them on top of hills which were originally designed that way for self defense, but now make for beautiful views from the top.

Also, Cassy's other cousin Nunu took us to this beautiful park. It is called the Poets Park and is filled with poems of Portugese poets and really amazing architecture.

One of the days that Cassy, Jess and I were relaxing in Figuera de Foz, Portugal, Cassy wasn't feeling very well and was sleeping so Jess agreed to let me do a photo shoot of her. She said she was up for anything and I took her up on it. haha. So I did her hair and make-up, we picked out and out fit and out we went. Jess was great, and being that she use to be a photographer she was really easy to work with and -I think- could bear with me as I changed lenses or told her to skooch over just a bit for some cool lighting effect. It was a lot of fun- thanks for being such a great sport Jess!

Paris!

Bonjour everybody!
I finally have the opportunity to update my blog and show you some new pictures. Some time internet places wont let you upload anything, or we dont have time, so finally here we go!
So after our trip to Barcelona, Jessica, Cassy and I flew over to Paris. Paris is a very beautiful city. It had a lot of differences than Barcelona. Barcelona was all about the night life and everyone was out and shopping and drinking and hanging out. In Paris, the shops closed around 7:00pm and there werent as many people out late at night. There we however lots of people still out in front of the Eiffle Tower. We went there the first two nights with a group from our hostel. We met a lot of really nice people from the hostel and ended up doing like everything with them. The second night we went to the hostel was especially fun. We took my blanket and a few bottles of wine and sat out on the lawn until pretty late. The next day we went on a walking tour around the city wich was really helpful and insightful. It also helped us get familiar where things were in the city. We also went to the Caticombs, wich are like these series of tunnels that go underground tht contain over 5 million corpses. Skulls and bones line the walls of the tunnels- its very creepy. On the last full day there we also went to the Louve- wich as you probably know contains a lot of amazing art work, including about 6 of Leonardo DeVinci´s painting- one being one of my favorites of his: Modonna of the Rocks. That was really neat to see. We also spent time window shopping (everything was way too expensive to buy but it was still alot of fun to look).

Hola! We all made it to Barcelona. This is my first stop of my trip and I met up with my friends Cassy, Jessica and Cassy´s cousin Luis. This past weekend, my brother (Brian), and sister-in-law (Cristina), and my favorite (and only) niece came to visit family down here in Orange County. They have a three month old daughter, named Kylie Capri, and of course she was the star of the show. She is so expressionate and full of personality. She laughs, coos, pouts, and crys -and is so cute no matter what she does. It was great to see them, and I love being Aunti Jan!

Hi everyone!
So I've finally started my photography blog. I figured I better start now before I leave for Europe, because then I am going to be overflowing with pictures. I am going to go to Portugal, Spain and France for a month and I am so excited. So anyway, welcome!

Here are a few pictures of my neighbor Spencer I shot this past weekend. Spencer has been my neighbor for over eight years. She was so eager and willing, it was a blast. I had her standing in a sewer, balancing on a fallen down fence and she looked like she was even having fun with it. Also Spencer is an amazing horse back rider and has won all sorts of medals. It was so much fun to do this photo shoot, but I can't wait to take pictures of her with her horse, doing what she really loves.
